Record Lover

Latest illustration for this week. Personally, my experience of listening to vinyl is from my childhood with my parents' records which consisted of the Beatles and... Peter Paul and Mary. ...and then lots and lots of John Denver. I think I had a particularly different take on vinyl from most others. Lots ...of folk music. Anyway, enjoy!

Japan trip update: This past weekend, the boyfriend and I visited Tateyama which is the city next to Chikura where I'm staying. We climbed the mountain (Mt. Tateyama) which has numerous statues for buddhism. But back in the early Meiji period, there was a massive anti-buddhist movement so many of the statues were beheaded. Over time, they've been reconstructed but a lot are still missing. There's a strange mix between modern and ancient Japan that people seem pretty down-to-earth about. Needless to say, I'm not sure if they knew what this snack sign translates to. If they did, I wish all snacks were advertised this way.

Is this an indication of how SPICY it is? Or what's going to happen to me when I purchase this product? ...Or if I DON'T purchase...

Enjoy!

Japan!

I've been pretty busy this past week. As I might have mentioned before, I'm currently in Chikura Japan, visiting the boyfriend. Very exciting! My next few entries will probably include photos from my adventures. I'm in a very remote fishing village on the east coast, 2 hours outside of Tokyo. So things are pretty different compared to being in the city, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

As for illustration work, I still plan to get some up when I can. My most recent piece was published in the Indypendent! It was for a critical essay on Education everywhere all the time, such as alternative schooling etc. You can read the article here!

Dream

This is based on a dream I had sometime ago. It's also a remake from an illustration I had done about 2 years ago and this is a far better version. I'm quite embarrassed if I ever find the first draft!

I decided to play on darks 'n lights a bit, just more experimenting. Enjoy!

VOTE! Tokyo Lights

Hey all, I designed a laptop skin for the City Series on Infectious. No one had yet to choose Tokyo, and I figured I'd give it a shot since I'll be out there for the next 4 weeks. Really, who doesn't like Tokyo?! If it wins, it becomes a skin you can have and put on your very own rockin' machine.

VOTE for my design here!

Much love and appreciation will abound from your votes!

Concept

More concept art for something I'm scheming up. Maybe it'll see the light of day to be fully completed.

Dark Side BBQ

I was informed about a Darth Vader book being put together by Josh Frost, and thought hey, I could do a Vader illustration!

Needless to say, THIS was the first image that sprung up in my head. Darth Vader's one of those people that's so awesome and menacing, he can look great no matter what he's doing. ...Even if it's stuff like this. Or this. Granted his origins are a bit shaky now that they've been unveiled... at least we know the end result was all-powerful. Enjoy!

Lost At E Minor

Much thanks and appreciation to Zolton who interviewed me and mentioned my work on his awesome site: Lost at E Minor!
I definitely recommend looking around it endlessly for HOURS. So many great art things to look at! So many goodies to divulge in! Go look! Now!

For art stuffs, here's a concept sketch for a comic I've been developing for self publication. Enjoy!

Typography

...Typography was never my strong suit. I regret not taking more graphic design while in college. This is just some practice, making fake band posters etc. I'm also still attempting to resolve my issues with color. We go back a long way, always disagreeing. Hopefully we'll come to a conclusion.

F***!

Due to the country's recession, there are new statistics out: people are droppin' the f-bomb A LOT more than usual.

I've never actually worked in a cubicle-style office. I did, however, work in a windowless office upstairs in a factory for 5 months. When the ventilation system broke, it rose to 90+ degrees in there and took over two weeks for someone to finally go through with resolving the problem. I definitely had days where I reacted like this guy during those 2 weeks.

I also read up on the treatment of supposed AIG employees by random people on the street, or polls of what the average American would DO to an AIG employee. Lets just say spitting is pretty high on the list among other actions that would result in far worse bodily harm. They've had to issue new company ID cards to these guys, and they're dressing down to look like regular people just in case. The bankers in England were also taking the same actions due to protestors/riots.

...Aside from all the chaos in the world, enjoy this chaotic illustration!

Finally

Seriously, took long enough for the season to get here, no? Hopefully it quits dropping below 40 at night! brrrr...

This can be considered a doodle that just went a bit too far to be a doodle. Enjoy!
