Bad hair day

Another illustration. This one had been bothering me for sometime so it had yet to be posted. Until today! At the last minute, her hair became gray for reasons I wish I had to explain to you. ...Can I still use the lame excuse, 'aesthetically pleasing to the eye'...?

Currently, I am intrigued by bountee and their t-shirt designing competition. ...If I can figure out the fun parts of vector illustration, I'd be glad to join in. Also, I've just signed on to do a small comic from Unleased Productions, a new and upcoming publishing company slash soon-to-be cartooning studio slash likeminded individuals who want to quit their day jobs and do their passion of illustration/sequential art full-time too. It'll be interesting to say the least; I've never done a team effort for comics where someone else inks my work and then another individual colors it in. It worked out for many, many others so I'm being pretty openminded to it. Not sure I'll be able to post anything here from Unleashed, but it's alright. More of my own stuff to come soon if my wrist can handle any inking tomorrow.

Also... if anyone knows any great tips and tricks for Flash animation, I'm teaching myself the program over the next few weeks. Grace me with your insight!

Going Overboard

As soon as Autumn hits, it's always a rush straight to the holidays. We somehow overlook the simpler things like hey, the days are getting shorter and the sky doesn't look as high. Back in the wee days when I was a store associate in JoAnn Fabrics, Halloween decor would hit right on the first of July. Christmas would bowl over everything immediately as Halloween was on the brink of ending. It's the same case for printing designs.

It's that time of year where I begin to think of what my Christmas postcard will look like. This illustration came along which has yet to be colored. I'll post an updated version of it soon. This however, probably won't be used.

But I thought it was fun and fanciful and I need more imagery like that in my life.

Cheers!

Sloppy

Okay, in some desperate attempt, I tried to crank out a two page comic in one weekend to shove into my portfolio and this is sadly the result. Did I completely bite off Ted Naifeh? ...Not entirely. But I was sooo inspired by 'How Loathsome' that I just couldn't help myself. And staring at Becky Cloonan and Brian Wood's stuff for two weeks straight didn't help either. So here it is.

Very VERY... loosely based off a personal experience I've had.

Other than that, I'm about to be employed for a money-hungry t-shirt making company that hires cheap labor and will give me 0% creative freedom as I computer-seperate colors for screenprinting machines. ...Shoot me in the face now. This is all because I'm money hungry as well (or plain hungry? I'm not in a bad position being unemployed though..) and I'd like some money while I try and find a new (and better) job.
Cheers.

More Photoshop

Another one finished. Is it obvious I really enjoy scanning in pieces of paper...?

Just a piece to practice yet even more airbrushing in Photoshop. Another two or so may follow after this one.

Space for Art

Holy cow, I found some old wine label designs I had done, secretly hiding somewhere on my computer. Check 'em out. Yay.

I just joined up with myartspace.com and I'm not too sure why. It just looked so inviting to post artwork in more communities...?

I'm off to NYC for the next 2 days or so. A friend of mine will be leaving for gradschool and a picnic-going-away-party will be one of my main reasons for departure. In the meantime and afterwards, I have about 3 projects to work on while simultaneously teaching myself some more programs in hopes of finding a uh... 'real' job.

Red and White together at last

...Still fiddling in Photoshop, as you can see by this new image.

I'll try and submit it into some contests even though the composition is hideous. Bah! ...Gods what was I thinking?! Ah well.

Apparently I had COMPLETELY fogotten about the San Diego ComiCon. Thank you Joe, for reminding me about that. So, come the end of July, I will have created another 8 page comic that has some really rushed story completely inked, and I'll hand those out to... everyone and anything that can help me out in California.

Summer's job opportunities are as brutal as its blistering heat.

I believe summer interns and temps take all the jobs (read that as, college students on summer break) and they cost less than to hire someone with more experience and as a potentially permanent full-time person. This is fine. I could hold out until the end of summer. Heck, I could say I inked a comic and created a new piece about every 3 days for 4 months. I'd feel like that's saying a lot but... being unemployed has given me too much time for my own good.

Cheers.
