Paper Suffocates Rock

...A long time ago, I decided to try and do a Rock.Paper.Scissors series. And I really want to re-do my Scissors Cut Paper one now.

BUT! here's the second installment, Paper Suffocates Rock. ...it actually looks like she's feeding him but who's to say those glowing lil birds won't explode or something? The colors might be really off since my screen's not calibrated whatsoever...so...sorry if they look really wonky?

ALSO! My Buried poster won on Posterbored so you can purchase your own 12" x 18" print of it for $10 here! Pretty exciting! Also, after purchasing a large format printer, I'll hopefully be opening a shop on etsy in the near future with a bunch of handmade things from t-shirts, to greeting cards, to limited edition prints of my work.

'Til then, cheers!

Last One!

Last of the three character commissions for QuarterCycle Productions. Done! Yaaay!

PHEW! New Years took a lot out of me. I'm still attempting to get over a nasty cold. Not sure how often I'll be able to post now as I've begun the tedious thing that is commuting myself from central NJ to Brooklyn, NY for a new internship. But I'm a determined person.

We'll see if it doesn't kill me. Until then, cheers!

The Farmhouse

...So no new images for today, but some exciting news! My illustration "Half-Chinese" which is featured at the top of this page as the banner, is being published online by Farmhouse Magazine for the January/February 2008 issue. It was also just accepted into Society of Illustrator's LA - Illustration West 46. Hurrah! I'm really honored and very ecstatic about this opportunity. I have one more commission to crank out and then we'll see to inking and coloring something for Spectrum!

Vinyl Birds

I decided to play in vector-land some more. I think it's going kind of uh...well?

Someone sent along a link to me to Poster Bored and I've actually entered this image as a poster design for their lil contest. If I win, I believe it gets made into a 12"x18" poster. Pretty neat! Here's the shameless self-promotion part...

If you like the design, go and vote for it here and get that design on yer wall! You have 7 days from today to get it done. Go forth! Do it now! Yeaaaaah!

Tai Chi

Another commission done for QuarterCycle Productions. I didn't want to focus too much on the background since it's supposed to be all about the character and his personality. I hope he comes across as asian since the comic deals heavily in martial arts.

I've been looking at a lot of Asaf & Tomer Hanuka's work today. I've actually been a fan for a few years but only got to really look at how great the quality is these past few days. and by great, I mean GORGEOUS. It's such beautiful linework with simple gradients as the majority of the colors; no highlights, sometimes shadows. I think it's that wonderful simplicity that's the key.

I'd also like to thank Randy for his brutal honesty whenever critiquing my work. Especially from this past weekend. It's a constant push to drive myself harder into future pieces.

Web Slinger

Completely overhauled the old website and it's brand new new new now. Check it out! ...Er... and I'll fix the rollovers when I get some more extra time. I have a few new things hidden around in there, in design, maybe illustration, and posted the rest of that really old, really ugly comic Rotten Wood. Oh if only I had known how to properly letter comics then.... Let alone how to use design programs.

The majority of 'new' stuff, you've probably already seen from here! That's all for now though.
I'm BEAT. Wowee!

Boys be

The finished version of this year's holiday postcard, front and back. Maybe once I have a few freelance projects out of the way, I can get around to putting up a shop with card designs or something... Ah well, it's a thought! Happy Holidays, all!

Ninja, please.

A commission of a character I was asked to do for the just-starting-up company QuarterCycle Productions.

Thanks to Mauricio for reminding me about thumbtack press and it's awesomeness! I hadn't looked at the site for a long, long time after my stupidity of not bookmarking the link. If you haven't heard of it or seen it, I definitely recommend doing a little perusing. If I get my act together, maybe I'll try to submit a few images in (when they're accepting of course).

The first listed illustrator is Bob Dob and that reminded me... I have to say I was upset by how underrated the video game Psychonauts, the one he did wonderful designs for, had turned out because the company kept pushing the release date back. I'd say go out and try playing it if you can find it. Welp... not like it held him back any. You go Bob Dob.

Vector!

I decided to finally try out vector art in Illustrator. Actually playing around with it this time! This is a sample of a shirt design I quickly whipped up to try and apply for design jobs. Very simple. Making something with gingko leaves has been on my brain for a LONG time now. Ah well. Most smaller companies/screenprinters don't do silk-screening in this fashion.. usually it's in a small square shaped area right on the chest.

Best Sled Evaar.

The linework to my holiday card which I'll send off to be printed on Monday. Who the heck knows when I'll get them back, but let's hope it's before the holidays! After they're mailed out, I'll post the final with the front and back. I swear it'll make more sense than it does now.

...And that child's mouth is MASSIVE. He must be related to Mick Jagger or something...
