Perverted Rain
My skin from Topical Steroid Withdrawal has been sucking the life out of me (I'm about to enter month 8 of this horrible process). However, my skin finally let up for the last 2 days (barely) but I was able to draw on my own time for the first time in awhile. It was raining a lot in San Francisco so have some uh... perverted rain.

bengal influenced doodle
My fiance picked up Vol 1 of bengal's Luminae comic (http://www.magnetic-press.com/luminae/)
I am loving all the colors and line work in there. Gorgeous motion in the hair and faces.
Super influenced right now, really, really had to make a doodle.

Young Justice doodle - Robin 'n KF
SO. I watched the first season of Young Justice because it’s on Netflix. And Lemme. Tell. You.
The bromance between Kid Flash and Robin was phenomenal and hilarious. These two were great together - AND Wally West knew Dick Grayson’s identity when NO ONE else did. So cute, so they get a little roughed up doodle.
ALSO all the grammar-vocabulary bits where Robin broke down words and their meanings, like whelmed, dis in disaster etc, was fun. I wish more super-hero cartoons took liberties like this for character development!

Insomnia
My Topical Steroid Withdrawal managed to let up a weeee bit for a few days so I could at least complete another personal illustration! Drawing’s been tough with blisters/cracks, and swelling all over my hands but dangit I’m not gonna let it completely stop me.
One of the main side effects of TSW, sadly, is horrific insomnia. Even when you’re awake in the dead of the night, the world of social media like Twitter or Facebook (and Tumblr haha) is right there with you… constantly.

Hawkeye Initiative
I want to preface this with the fact that I am a huge fan of Milo Manara’s work and his Human History was one of the greatest things I came across in Strand bookstore, back when I was living in NYC years ago. Frankly, I love him as an erotica artist as well as a comic artist. Personally I think Manara had some insane deadline for this particular cover and didn’t get to give it his usual all.
But for Marvel, there was an art director somewhere that got those sketches in and they sat there and approved it with a bunch of other people for the franchise to make this a cover. So Spider-Woman gets the Hawkeye Initiative treatment.

Topical Steroid Withdrawal
New personal piece that shows how I've been physically feeling lately.
So. I haven’t been posting much artwork these days. There’s a good explanation for this.
For the past three months I’ve been battling against Topical Steroid Withdrawal (aka TSW). I do not recommend googling images of this, but if you do, be forewarned. It’s not pretty. TSW is not a well-known thing and this doesn’t happen to everyone. It occurs after heavily using a topical steroid cream on areas of the skin, usually in cases of eczema. I’ve had eczema all my life. Usually used Over-The-Counter hydro-cortisone creams and for the most part, I grew out of it in High School to college. But a really persistent area on my hands refused to go away.
I decided to visit a dermatologist this year and she prescribed me a stronger topical steroid cream. Needless to say, I used it, and it worked. …For a total of about 1-2 months. I started slathering more of this cream on my hands in hopes of remedying my returning problem, but my eczema came back, even worse than ever. In fact, it started spreading to areas of my body that I’d never had eczema before. Over the next few weeks, I tapered off this prescription cream, and was left with red, horrifically itchy skin across my entire body. The entire length of my arms, my entire torso, down my back, my legs, my throat and back of neck, with the worst area being my hands.
This is not a normal eczema/allergy-induced itch. I want you to imagine fire ants constantly crawling and biting under your skin. It doesn’t go away. And you can continue scratching, even until you reach blood and bone, and you still cannot stop scratching. You actually feel like you’re losing sanity. There are so many side effects that come with this and here are some of what I’ve experienced so far:
- Red Sleeve Syndrome (entire length of arms turn red and raw, stopping at the wrist)
- Insomnia
- Raw, bloody, oozing skin
- Intense fatigue/constantly tired
- dry flaking skin
- sensitivity to foods you were never allergic to before
-swollen, painful skin
- random pangs of pain/nerve pain
- lichenification of skin (aka elephant skin, swolling with wrinkles)
- hot/burning like feeling from skin
- chills/shivering
List goes on and on. The cure is stopping all topical steroid creams and giving the body time to recover from it’s addiction to steroids. The only problem: recovery time can be somewhere on average between 9-18 months. People drop out of school or work for months at a time because this can be incredibly debilitating. I was lucky enough to stumble across ITSAN and their very friendly forums of other individuals going through the same thing.
For now, I’ll try to draw and post when I can, but for the most part, I’m dedicating my raw/bloody hands to drawing at my full-time job and resting when I am at home. Wish me luck on a hopefully more speedy recovery!

"The biggest smiles hide the most pain."
I think this man touched so many people, even if we didn’t know him personally. It’s like he was our uncle. The one with all the hilarious stories, and the wonderful life lessons that we all needed growing up. He will be missed.
Take a bow, good sir.

180 Nigerian school girls are still missing after over 200 were abducted weeks ago. Fellow illustrators Rebecca Bradley and Janna Morton have created a site uniting the names of those missing girls with illustrated flowers, in dedication and hope, and to make this issue more apparent.
I’m grateful to take part in this.
You can view more illustrations with these girls’ identities on their tumblr page here.

Kingdom Hearts
Ha, forgot to post this here.
This was my back-story for Riku’s hair cut in KH:3D -
In which Riku says, 'it’s really hard to fight with long hair in my face, hey Sora, can you cut it for me? And Sora is all surethingofcourse.’
Only Riku brought the latest issue of Spider-Man to read during his hair cut and Sora loves Spider-Man (because a hero that has to deal with school-work on top of saving the world is something he easily relates to?) so he’s not doing a good job of paying attention while cutting Riku’s hair. If this is how it went down, then I am perfectly fine with him having shorter locks.
I’m actually in the midst of playing Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance right now, and goddamn these two cute bastards. If these guys aren’t an official couple in KH:3, they’re doing the story all wrong. …I’m cool with ‘em as best bros too, to be honest.
But come on. You’re not foolin’ anyone, Nomura.

Floating
Random Sunday doodle. I'm currently taking a break from Sketch Dailies because I've been getting more stress-flare ups on my hands (severe eczema).
This makes life in general very difficult and unpleasant but I do hope to post more again soon! In the meantime I want to try and get back into my usual personal works and focus on more line and pattern at a leisurely pace.
